Self-Control

Self-control is often misunderstood as stronger willpower or greater personal discipline, but Scripture presents something much deeper. In this message, we’ll see that biblical self-control is not about mastering ourselves; it is the evidence that the Holy Spirit is mastering us through our union with Christ. As Paul contrasts the desires of the flesh with the work of the Spirit, he reminds us that the Christian life is not won by self-effort but by walking daily under the Spirit’s direction.

As we conclude our series on the Fruit of the Spirit, we’ll discover that the battle for holiness begins in the heart, where competing desires seek to rule our lives. Through the perfect obedience of Christ and the transforming work of the Holy Spirit, God is producing believers who are increasingly governed by His presence, shaped by His truth, and made useful for His glory. Self-control is not simply resisting sin; it is living under the gracious lordship of Jesus Christ.
