Devotional Title: “Letting the Lies Die at the Empty Tomb”

Devotional Title: “Letting the Lies Die at the Empty Tomb”

Scripture Focus: “He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said.” – Matthew 28:6a (NASB)

Sermon Reflection:

Resurrection Sunday is not just the celebration of an event—it’s the declaration of a truth so powerful, it dismantles every lie that’s ever been told about Jesus… and about us. In Matthew 28:11–15, we see that even after the resurrection, there were efforts to cover it up. Why? Because lies are easier to live with than the truth when the truth demands change.

And here’s where it gets personal.

Many of us believe in Jesus as Savior. We believe He died, was buried, and rose again. But deep down, we still entertain lies in the corners of our hearts:
“I’m too broken to be used by God.”
“God loves others more than He loves me.”
“As long as I’m a good person, I’m fine.”
“I’ll surrender fully… later.”

But these are not harmless thoughts—they are distortions. Like standing in front of a cracked mirror, we’ve grown used to the fractured version of truth. We adjust our faith around our feelings, rather than letting our faith reframe our feelings in the light of Christ’s resurrection.

The resurrection demands more than celebration it demands surrender. Because if Jesus is alive, then everything He said is true. And if everything He said is true, then so are His promises, His power, and His claim over our lives.

How Should I Respond?

This isn’t a call to doubt your salvation—it’s an invitation to live fully free. To let the lies go. To walk in the light of what you already believe. If you believe He rose, then believe He is also:
Able to heal the wounds you’ve hidden.
Willing to use your life, even the messy parts.
Faithful to forgive what shame tells you He won’t.
Present in your pain, not just your praise.

Ask yourself: What lie am I still holding on to… just to keep control?

Weekly Prayer:

Father, thank You for raising Jesus from the dead.
Thank You that His resurrection is not just a moment in history but the foundation of my hope. Help me stop living as if You’re still in the tomb. Expose the lies I’ve believed about You, and the ones I’ve told myself. Give me courage to surrender what I’ve been afraid to let go of. I believe You are the Truth—help me walk in it.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

5-Day Application Plan

Day 1: Reflect
Read Matthew 28:1–10. Write down what emotions you would have felt if you were at the tomb. Ask: Do I still respond to Jesus’ resurrection with awe?

Day 2: Reveal
Pray Psalm 139:23–24. Ask God to search your heart for lies you’ve believed—about Him, yourself, or your future.

Day 3: Replace
Choose one lie you’ve believed and find at least two scriptures that speak the truth over it. (e.g., “I’m not enough”  2 Corinthians 12:9; “God is done with me”  Philippians 1:6)

Day 4: Reconnect
Reach out to a trusted believer and share what God is showing you. Community helps uproot deception.

Day 5: Respond
Write a declaration of faith: a short paragraph of what you now believe to be true because Christ is risen. Read it out loud. Declare it over your life.

Final Thought:

The lie only works if it goes unchallenged. But the empty tomb is the final word.
He is not dead.
He is risen.
And because He is alive—so are you.

Let the lies die where Jesus rose… and walk forward in the truth that sets you free.
